One day in mid June, 2005 I had a call from Donna who said there was litter of five, 5 wk old puppies, who had been rejected by their mother & the father dog was very aggressive towards them. Claire kindly went to collect them for me as I had planned to distribute them amongst other foster homes. Claire suggested that they were too young to be separated ….and so I kept them. 2 went to Amanda after 2 weeks, 1 was homed & the last pair stayed for another 3 weeks. On their second day here, my eldest daughter Charlotte celebrated her 18th birthday with a few friends & a BBQ in the garden. In between serving up burgers & birthday cake, I spent most of my time picking up numerous poos & mopping up hundreds of wees, from under everyone’s feet! There were frequent cries from our guests of “its done another one on my foot!”. Oh what memories!! Without exaggeration, we went through 3 rolls of kitchen towel a day and I forgot to mention, there was a mini heat wave, so they got diarrhoea too! They were fun but boy, were they exhausting...and challenging! They cried if they did not get attention, so not much else got done for those few weeks & I think the neighbours were quite keen to see them go! The best bit was of course all the cuddles! They all went to fabulous homes. Three of our supporters, Lynne, Amanda & Ewa each adopted one. At the time it was chaos but I am glad I had the experience of observing the antics of such a cheeky little gang of puppies! Bless them!! |
