The Southall orphans Recently we have had a spate of dramatic rescues regarding young kittens. I had a call one evening from a young teenage lad in Southall, who, in very poor English, told me about a 2 day old kitten who he had brought in to his bedroom. He had found 2 of them lying exposed on the grass in his garden the day before, one was dead. It was pouring with rain and the stray mother cat had just left them behind. Unfortunately the parents told this lad to leave the kitten there over night, so the poor little thing was left out, in the rain all night. It was about 9pm and so I called Amanda, who very kindly offered Bob’s services to go and collect this little baby immediately. I mixed up some formula ready for her to swing by and collect as she was going to try and hand rear him. Amanda and Bob, brought the little kitten home, feeding him on the way and wrapped in a warm blanket. Sadly, he died the next day and although this is a sad tale, this is the harsh reality of rescue work. The most important thing is, that that little kitten did not die out in the cold alone but with a full tummy, safe and warm and hearing the soothing tones of a kind human voice. |
