Lily was a little tabby and white kitten that was brought in to ARC after being found beside a river. She came in, as you can see in the first picture, with greasy and dirty fur, and not using her back leg at all. She was also extremley timid, scared and wet. We took her to the vet the next morning and they had to gas her to examine her, as she freaked out and bit the vet. When our vet looked at her she began to see large gashes on her legs and tail. Lily (as we named her) was shaved around her wounds and they were cleaned and stiched. At first our vet thought it was just her leg injuries causing her limping (which needed 22 sutures in her leg and tail). Lily came round and the vet nurse kindly offered to care for Lily as a fosterer. This was excellent news for us, as we knew Lily would recieve one to one attention and all the nursing appropiate. After our vet nurse gaining Lily's trust and spending alot of time with her to build her confidence, Lily began to be affectionate and settle in. However, after some rest, the vet nurse realised Lily was still not using one of her back legs properly, and dragged it. So an x-ray confirmed that she'd been born without a hip socket and therefore had a permanant dislocated hip and needed a femeral head excision (removal of the hip ball) therefore needing 2 weeks caged rest. Lily had the operation and then went back to the vet nurse to rest. Well, a few months on, Lily is still living with the vet nurse and has flourished. She has been adopted and is one lucky girl! She is an absolute sweetie and gets on with the other cats. From her new home: "I think the photos say how she's getting on - but she loves to carry her teddy bear and monkey around the house and follows me where ever I go including up to bed every night!!!" We would like to say a HUGE thankyou to Zoe for giving Lily the best possible chance and making her so happy! |
